Skaarl (UK based downtempo electronic musician, producer and former DJ.)

~ Person

United Kingdom-based electronic musician Skaarl, started out as a DJ playing house music, before following the usual route to producing music under various alter egos. He has left the energy of the world’s dancefloors behind however, and now creates music in more relaxed genres, such as chillout, ambient, downtempo, trip-hop, and electronic music.

In June 2013, Skaarl released his debut Tropical Haze EP, consisting of mostly electronic and downtempo tracks. While this release serves as an introduction to his music, Skaarl’s individual musical style usually features the use of lazy chords and leads, laid-back beats, glitchy percussion, as well as the occasional chopped up and processed vocal. Many of Skaarl's releases are set around an obvious theme, such as the robot-like rhythms and synthesisers used on Android, or the aquatic-tinged Blue and White single. While others have more subtle themes, which are left for the listener to interpret in their own way. Occasionally the music also drifts back to a more relaxed style of dance music, such as with the single Shadows.

After taking time away from releasing music whilst at university, Skaarl reappeared in 2016 with his first album Locked in the System. Currently Skaarl is working on several forthcoming releases as well as playing double bass as a session musician.
